CU Guide

So you say you’re going to be in Champaign sometime soon? Have any free time? Well here are some ideas to keep you occupied from the former Bride and Groom (Mallory and Brett hehe). 🙂 Have another favorite that we haven’t mentioned? Let us know and we’ll add it! We will update this site periodically on our own as well….exploring Champaign never ends!

Looking for Breakfast? – Original House of Pancakes

The Original House of Pancakes is a favorite of the Bride and Groom’s. In fact, the Bride very much wishes that OHP (or ‘Opah’ as Mallory likes to call it) was open all day long. 🙂 Located at 1909 W. Springfield Ave., just West of Mattis on Springfield, the Original Pancake House is sure to please.

Want another Breakfast option? – Le Peep

Another favorite breakfast venue for the happy couple is Le Peep. Here, the Groom’s favorite menu item is the Razzle Dazzle French Toast. 🙂 It’s located at 2209 S. Neil St. in Champaign.

Looking for a fun coffee shop? – Cafe Kopi

Cafe Kopi is found in the heart of downtown Champaign. A fun and eclectic, independent coffee shop, it has long been a favorite hang out and study spot for the Bride and Groom. Found in downtown Champaign at 109 North Walnut St., their special of the day is always worth the trip.

Looking for a good book? – Champaign Public Library

Many hours have been spent studying in this library by the Bride and Groom. They also regularly stop by the library just to pick up some books, a couple of movies, and maybe even a very very easy to play video game (everyone knows that the Bride is NOT good at video games 🙂 ). The Champaign County Library is a brand new building, very beautiful, and located at 200 W. Green St. in Champaign.

U&I Nails is a great place for that last minute mani/pedi. They are located at 2004 S. Neil St. in Champaign, directly across from the Ford dealership.

Interested in a Saturday morning farmers market? – Urbana Farmers Market

Urbana has a great farmers market on Saturday mornings from 7am until noon. Brett and I like to go after having had some coffee and doughnuts at home. It is a great place to pick up fresh cheese, flowers, veggies, and even meat!

Hungry for dinner? – Seven Saints

Seven Saints, located at 32 E. Chester St. in downtown Champaign, is a great place for sliders and whiskey (though the Bride prefers a Gin and Tonic, herself). With great, old fashioned decor, a great drinks menu, and sliders, soups, salads, and wonderful sweet potato chips, this is a favorite dinner location for the Bride and Groom.

Another great dinner place- Escobar’s

Escobar’s is a great dinner place located at 6 East Columbia Ave. in Champaign. It serves ‘New Latin’ cuisine serving everything from braised short ribs to roasted duck, to broiled tilapia. The Bride and Groom really enjoy this restaurant.

Looking for some great Mexican food?- Dos Reales

Dos Reales, or ‘Dos’ as we like to call it, is a Friday tradition for the Bride and Groom. With excellent margarita specials and great Mexican food, Dos is the place to go! It is located at 1407 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign.

Looking for authentic Mexican food? – Maize Mexican Grill

Maize is a fantastic little, hole-in-the-wall Mexican place here in Champaign. Located at the corner of 1st St. and Green St., it has a great campus town feel and wonderful food.

Pekara is a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. From their wonderful pastries, to their coffees, crepes, and sandwhiches, Pekara is sure to please! This gem is located at 116 N Neil St. in downtown Champaign.

About 20 miles south of Champaign on Highway 57, the Tanger Outlet has so many great outlet choices! Brett and I like heading down there every once in a while 🙂

In the mood for a stroll among the flowers? – Illinois Arboretum and IDEA Garden

The Illinois Arboretum is a beautiful place to take a nice walk among the foliage near the southern part of campus. The garden is full of beautiful plants, flowers, and trees. Nearby is the IDEA garden where Master Gardeners of Champaign County put their expertise to work as well as the Japan House which showcases Japanese architecture, gardens, and tea ceremonies.

Need some music or theatre in your life? – Krannert Center for the Performing Arts

The Krannert Center is a fabulous place for a classical music concert or a modern dance performance, a politically revolutionary play or a beautiful ballet. With cheap student ticket prices and a wide variety of artistic performances, it really is a place to visit when in Champaign.
