Girly Wednesday ~ xxxxiv ~ Daring Greatly

I’ve been collecting some office mantras as I dream about framing things for putting above my desk.  🙂  I’ve also been reading a book by Brené Brown called Daring Greatly.  In a talk of hers I recently watched, she quotes the Man in the Arena speech given by Theodore Roosevelt…

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat. ”

As I become closer and closer to sharing my new small business endeavor with everyone, I can’t help but identify with this quote.  (Teaser:  My official launch date is March 3…you all will definitely find out everything you ever wanted to know then 🙂 )  How does Brené Brown end up responding to this quotation by President Roosevelt?  “If you’re not also in the arena, getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback.”

So, here is to the critics, to the victors, and to everyone who we lean on for love and support in every situation in between.

 

Girly Wednesday ~ xxxxii ~ imagining the perfect room

Have you ever seen those design blogs/articles/magazines with pictures of these wonderfully imagined rooms?  Sometimes it is the perfect kitchen, or the most luxurious bathroom, or a cozy bedroom.  My favorites are always the reading/library rooms that people add to their extravagant houses.  I totally want a room with floor to ceiling bookshelves one day, a sliding ladder, and a really cozy space to read 🙂
