30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge – Day 3

Hello loves!  If you have been following this little project of mine than skip ahead to the photo.  If not, you can read my explanation of this 30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge that ABM is having here.  In that post I share what the challenge is about and even a cool link to a psychologist’s look at selfies.  🙂  If you’d like to catch up on my previous submissions to the challenge click here….want to try along with me?  Let me know!  🙂

30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge – Day 2

If you missed my explanation of this cool challenge see my post about it here.  I have really enjoyed getting to know more about the blog-o-sphere over the last few months and one thing that I have learned is that pictures are everything!  That being said, Brett is really the one with the patience for the good camera photos.  Though we each own our own DSLR, he is far more likely to actually haul it along all over the place.  🙂  I have thus, taken the role of’general picture taker’ in our little family.  Since I have my iPhone with me almost all the time, I have started taking pictures with it non-stop.  🙂  The lovely ladies at A Beautiful Mess suggest that the self-portrait challenge is really all about learning more about taking good pictures…finding awesome new ways of angling, posing, and lighting your subject…which for the sake of simplicity, happens to be you 🙂  Selfies have a bad rap…these self-taken pictures can be used to capture such awesomely fleeting moments in our lives.  What is the harm in that?  🙂

Here is my second picture for the 30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge with ABM

30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge from ABM

I have decided to do the 30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge that one of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, is hosting.  The point is to challenge yourself to take a self portrait every day, for 30 days.  Our regularly scheduled content will still take place but I will also try and post one of these self portraits every day.  The two master-minded women behind A Beautiful Mess, Emma and Elsie, describe the process this way…

“At first it feels unnatural, awkward and pretty self-absorbed. But you know what happens next? It becomes really, REALLY fun! I took this challenge years ago, and I learned about lighting, angles, color, composition and posing. The result was so much more than just a bunch of photos of me! Self-portraits are a wonderful way to learn about photographing people because your subject is always with you! 😉 “

Sounds like fun right?  If you want to do the challenge too, just follow the link I provided to their blog post and ABM explains everything!  Anyone want to join with me? (Let me know!  I want to check out your photos too!) 🙂

Love, Mal

P.S.  Uncomfortable with ‘selfies’?…check out this really interesting article by Dr. Pamela Rutledge  It is a really interesting look at the psychology and act of self expression created in self portraits.  🙂

P.P.S.  All of my photos will be taken with my iPhone…I have really enjoyed having it around me all the time and thus taking lots of everyday photos…stay tuned for a “week in photos” post coming soon!  (eeeppp, don’t you love teasers?!)  🙂
